  • General sessions from ODE and the auditor of state’s office.
  • Breakout sessions will cover booster clubs, STRS, transportation, levies and food service programs.

Be sure your district has the most current information! Plan now to attend the 2008 OSBA Treasurers’ Clinics to be held in five locations from, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

8:30 a.m. Opening General Session – School-funding reform and the political environment
Gov. Ted Strickland is hosting 12 regional "Conversations on Education," giving local citizens the opportunity to share their thoughts and proposed ideas on creating a system of education that is linked to economic prosperity in Ohio. Hear the latest results on this "School Funding Reform" process and other legislative issues affecting public education.

  • 'J' accuse! Crimes, misdemeanors and school employment
    Learn about background checks; new misconduct reporting requirements and employment-disqualifying offenses; how criminal records can impact current employment; the relationship between licensure standards and contract termination standards; and new Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.

  • Transportation rules, regionalization, & T Reports
    This session will review how transportation data translates into funding flow; how to compare your costs and efficiencies with other similar districts; and key areas to focus on to save money in your transportation operation.

  • Levy alternatives to minimize voter fatigue
    Levy planning minimizes voter fatigue. This session will explore options to fund both operating and capital needs from a streamlined standpoint.

  • Programs that affect school budgets
    Ohio school districts regularly examine their annual budget to review budgeting options. This session will deal with several programs that affect those budgets and how to better balance district budgets and programs.

  • Roles, duties, responsibilities of the treasurer and the board-superintendent-treasurer relationship
    This session will focus on the legal roles, duties and responsibilities of the treasurer, with a particular emphasis on “hot topics” in those areas. In addition, we will discuss the relationship among and between the treasurer, superintendent and board of education. Finally, we will cover key statutory amendments in the recently enacted state capital bill, including important amendments to the tax levy law.

  • Booster clubs, proper accounting, and ethics
    This session will cover issues related to accounting for student activities, including working with booster groups and extracurricular staff.

  • ODE area coordinators
    Join your area coordinator for updates on the world of school finance, including the open enrollment, budget updates, the SF-3 and the recent realignment of regional boundaries.
  • Cost and overall impact on food service programs
    Against the backdrop of an era of transparency and accountability, representatives from the state auditor’s office will discuss school district performance auditing in Ohio, including observations based on 10 years of audit history. The speakers will also introduce a self-assessment guide for school districts that incorporates key benchmarking and best practices information.

Registration

Tuition for individual workshops is $95 per person for OSBA member district representatives and OASBO members, which covers registration, materials and lunch. OSBA does not send confirmation of registration. "Walk-in" registrations are welcome on a space-available basis only.

Cancellation and refund policy

  • Cancellations received by OSBA at least four workdays before the date of the workshop will receive a full refund or no charge to the district.
  • Cancellations received less than four workdays before will have one-third of the fee charged to the district.
  • No-shows and cancellations the day of the workshop will be charged the full registration amount.

Credit
Attendees can benefit by being able to meet their local and state professional development needs.

  • In-service credit — The auditor of state’s office has approved the workshop for in-service credit. Under provision of Ohio Revised Code Section 3301.072, each superintendent, or his or her designees, treasurer and business manager, shall attend one approved training program each year.
  • LPDC credit — Certificates of attendance will be provided to all participants for their LPDC.
  • Ashland University credit — Ashland University has approved this workshop for one-half semester credit for a fee of $136.
  • CPE credit — OSBA is an approved CPE sponsor with the Accountancy Board of Ohio.
