HB 9 FAQ RESOURCES

Does the board have to act if it wants a designee to attend public records training required by HB 9?
Yes, the board should act through a motion or resolution at its next board meeting if it wishes to name a designee to attend the public records training.

Does the designee have to be a board member?
No, it does not have to be a board member.  The board should designate one person.  More people can attend the training if they wish to, but the board should have one designee to avoid confusion.

What about expiring terms?
The law goes into effect on 9/29- terms expiring in December of this year ARE subject to the law requiring elected officials or officials appointed to an elective office to attend the training once per term...OR designate by board action someone to attend on behalf of the board of education.  This is why it's important for the board to decide now who will attend the training for terms that are expiring, be it a board designee or the board members themselves.

I can't get into a training session; what should I do?
Don't panic.  The Ohio Attorney General's office is adding more sessions.  Check their web site frequently or call their offices to see what scheduled training will meet your needs.
